I liked the overall packaging of the Barbie Bella Twilight doll for the atheistic value but for those who might be doll collectors or are thinking of starting be aware there is nothing all that special about this doll besides having Twilight packaging and one label inside the jacket that says Summit. Also please be aware that if you intend to remove Bella from the box you have a job ahead of you. It seems she is wrapped up and attached well to the interior cardboard and if you get this as a Christmas gift for a young Twilighter then it will probably take you a while to get her out of the thin plastic box and all the packaging ties, tape and rubber she is attached with. Also be careful when cutting her head from the plastic attaching her to the package so you don’t cut her hair in the process. This Bella doll has bendable knees but not bendable arms which is a step back in my opinion for Mattel in comparison to the release of the Wonder Woman Pink Label all bendable doll. Be warned: the bendable knees both won’t bend right out of the packaging. Mattel, in a strange move, placed a black carboard wrap around the straight leg of Bella. To free the knee of it’s cardboard prison you need to remove the tape and cardboard carefully after undressing Bella of her jeans. In my case the tape adhesive had attached itself not only to the cardboard but to my doll and I had to clean it off. Bella’s head moves and rotates easily. A black plastic band acts as a head band for Bella’s dark brown hair and seems to slip and slide easily so you have to keep moving it back into place if you handle the doll out of the package. (Tip: If for some reason this band breaks just visit the beauty section in a local Wal-mart, Target, Walgreens etc.. and pick up a pack of the plastic Goody hair binders in black to replace it. The band is very similar in type to those.) There is no Summit identification on the doll body itself to tell you it’s a Twilight Saga item. The stamp on the back of the Barbie Bella head says C 1991 Mattel Inc. The stamp on the middle of the dolls low back says C 1999 Mattel Indonesia then an additional number 2509. Bella’s head is a soft plastic with glittery pink lips, red brown eye brows, black painted eye lashes and a kind of grayed yellow brown eye color. The cheeks are faintly brushed in a pink tone on the warm cream colored skin tone. The ears look as if they could take earrings but no jewelry is provided with this doll. The hands are bent in such a way that when Bella’s arms are posed upwards it almost looks like Bella is performing the ‘Y’ in the dance routine for the ‘YMCA’ song. Her feet are high heal Barbie feet. To keep the plastic canvas look-a-like shoes on Bella’s feet, Mattel used sticky dots like you would use for scrap booking, similar to ZOTS on each heal. When removed the shoes seem to fit Bella fine and do not seem to fall off when moved around so I am guessing this was to keep it from moving in shipping etc.. Bella has no underclothing. She only comes wearing a pair of jeans and a Bella ‘like’ jacket blue-grey in color with pockets on the front, a gold zipper that you will have to cut the thread for to make usable and a white ribbon sewn inside that says “TM AND C Summit Entertainment, LLC.” with just a folded up flat collar. This white label is the first clue you have that the doll is even associated with Summit besides the packaging itself. If the doll was mixed into other barbies you’d have a hard time defining it as a Twilight associated item. The jeans are a typical Barbie style jean with no label and two usable pockets in the front like real jeans. In the back the jeans are connected by a navy Velcro closure. The closure does not seem to pop open easily when bending or moving the dolls legs but you can hear the Velcro closure adjusting to the movements you make. There is a certificate of authenticity included as a novelty I suspect which tells you about the doll and there is a typical Mattel plastic Barbie doll stand. There is nothing special about the stand itself except for the Twilight logo in a gray-blue color rub on over the black base. The bottom of the base says C 1997 Mattel Inc., Indonesia and has four spongy bits to stop the stand from sliding when placed on a desk or table. The resting place for the doll to sit, and I mean sit as to keep Bella on the stand you have to bend both of her knees. She cannot stand on this as the resting rod in clear plastic is not tall enough to accommodate the doll. (I wonder if Mattel was guessing only a small portion of the population would actually try to use this stand verses just keeping the doll in the package.) Overall the doll is a Barbie doll not a Twilight doll. It’s more of a Halloween costume for Barbie. No significant accessories or jewelry. A little bit disappointing…

This doll doesn’t “do” anything but I think that’s the best part! It’s a basic rubber doll with molded hair. The accessories are fun and encourage role play. No batteries needed. And the doll doesn’t cry, sing, dance, walk etc. But it does pee after you give her cup of water. We bought the potty and cloth diaper set in Target for $ [...] and an extra outfit with a cloth diaper (Target brand $ [...]). They work perfectly and I don’t have to worry about extra paper diapers. This doll can also be put in a tub without fear of being ruined. You can get Target brand bath tub with extra accessories for $ [...] or just let your kid take a bath with the doll. Who needs batteries, disposable diapers and fake food products that will mold inside of the “real” baby alive doll (that grosses me out). I think it is a nice basic toy, good quality and durable. You can use regular bandaids on her too when the stickers are all used up. I’m just SUPER ANNOYED that all dolls now come in blond/blue eyed (and speak in English), brunette with brown eyes (speak in Spanish) and African American (speak in English). Really? Not everyone who’s not Hispanic is blond and blue eyed. And what about boy dolls? Seriously, we’re having a baby boy soon and I can’t find any male dolls in stores. That’s unexcusable!!! But that’s a different story for a different day.

My daughter asked for this for her birthday because we couldn’t afford a “real” Baby Alive doll. This one was much cheaper, so she was fine with getting it instead. Unfortunately, it’s not a real Baby Alive doll, which is why it’s so much cheaper. She was extremely disappointed, and she hardly ever played with it again after the first day. She thought this doll was at least going to DO something, but it doesn’t. It has a tube that goes through from its mouth to it’s bottom so it can “pee” like the dolls that would do this in the 70s, but other than that, it doesn’t really have any features to speak of. It’s just an ordinary “Betsy Wetsy” type doll with some accessories. It’s ok as far as an average doll goes, but don’t buy it because of the “Baby Alive” name, because it’s most definitely NOT a Baby Alive.

We were at toys r us just yesterday and decided to see if anything new came in, in the Monster High Doll section at Toys R Us. To our surprise we did see 1 Spectra Vondergeist doll. My 9 1/2 yr old daughter grabbed it right away. I thought .99 was a little high since some of the other dolls are only 12.99 and 15.99, but when you see a Monster High Doll that you know your child wants, don’t make the mistake of trying to go back later when your child isn’t with you because chances are it won’t be there. I made that mistake and it took over 6 months to find it, I even had people looking in other states. My girls are 9 1/2 and 12 and they both love Monster High dolls, and any of there friends who aren’t familiar with them end up wanting them after they leave here. I do have to say they are a little on the fragile side. The hands pop off and can be snapped back on but if the leg pops out, it is not repairable.My daughter probably had her doll for about 11 months before anything happened to the leg. But they still love them and still continue to get them. Spectra Vondergeist has long 2 toned purple hair( bright dark purple on top and light lilac all underneath), her eyes are purple with a little bit of aqua, and aqua eyeshadow. Her arms and legs start out as white but 1/2 way past the elbow and 1/2 way past the calf they are clear. She has ball and chain earrings, and her dress her dress is a pretty black and sparkly fuschia with a plastic chain belt. Her boots are a light fuschia that have 2 rows of chains that wrap around and the heel is like the ball to a ball and chain. If you’ve never owned a monster high doll the head is poseable, and the arms, hands, and legs are moveable and bend at the joints. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars was because I think they could be constructed a little more sturdier. But they are really cool.

I was leery of Spectra. Promo pictures never really sold me on the newest addition to the Monster High line. Since picking her up, however, she has quickly become one of my favorites! Spectra, the daughter of a ghost, wears a funky hot pink/black/purple dress that really looks neat. The coolest trait about this doll is her see-through limbs. As you look further towards her feet (or top of boots, in this case) or between her elbow to the tips of her fingers, you’ll notice her skin is see-through. The effect is *really* neat and done very, very well. Spectra photographs fantastically and looks great with Deuce and Holt. Spectra comes with her pet Ferret, as well as the standard comb, diary, accessory (purse), and stand. My only problem with this doll is that her Ferret, Rhuen, can’t stand on his own. He clasps on to Spectra fine, but he’s too heavy to stand alone on his base. I only wish that they’d balanced him better b/c photo ops with the ferret would work better if he stood on his own. That being said, this is only a minor problem. All in all, Spectra is a great addition to the Monster High line. If you’re not sold on her based on promo shots, look for user photos. You won’t be disappointed in her! |

Mary Jo Gardener is super cute and super fun! She’s got buttons and a zipper on her overalls (neither of which is that difficult for a child to manipulate, contrary to a previous review). One shoe has a snap strap; the other shoe has a Velcro strap. The flower on her hat attaches with Velcro, and her hair and hat (which is an integrated part of the doll and does not come off) have ribbon ties. The ribbons are sewn on so they can’t get lost or swallowed by a curious toddler. The overalls come off and are therefore washable; the shirt might be a squeeze, but it’s probably doable. (She doesn’t have any undies.) Her hat brim, buttons, zipper pocket, and shoes are more of a hot pink than the purple-y magenta shade they appear to be in the photo. She’s very soft and snuggly for a little one to hold. My niece can’t put her down!

I purchased this doll for my 3 yr old and was immediately impressed with not only the dolls size but also the quality. while it appears aesthetically to look like dolls of old with stitches and buttons these dolls are in fact made of rubber and plastic with high quality cloth clothing (except her shoes which are rubber) I also like the dolls joints that give them a “floppy” feel which lends itself to the overall theme. Overall, my child loves it.

The manufacturer planned on BANKING on the parents needing more diapers and more doll juice, but you don’t have to feed into it. Get cloth and go with water-pee. The stethoscope does not have a battery in it, nor does the doll, so do not plan to hear a heartbeat. However, if you plan to get a supplemental medical kit at some point, get one with a steth that has a heart beat sound. The other accessories in this kit are fantastic. The medicine in the spoon disappears, the aspirator looks like it’s taking away mucus, and the thermometer says this baby has a fever. If you run out of bandaids, just use kid ones. Residue can be rubbed off with a wet cloth. If you use your imagination, this doll is exactly what you need without being suckered into buying the extras.
